Reading the Bible
The Price of Quiet Listening
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
You keep postponing the Bible because the day feels too full. The cost of that habit is more than a missed story; it is the quiet surrender of a place where God speaks, the loss of a compass when decisions crowd your mind, the way the heart avoids the conviction that would steady a marriage or a job deadline. You may think a few minutes are nothing, yet each day you trade a moment of truth for the comfort of silence, and that silence builds a wall that grows heavier each time you walk past it.
The good news is that the wall does not have to stay. When you set aside a single hour, even if it is broken into two fifteen minute blocks, the page you open becomes a mirror that shows the cost and also the grace that meets it. The Scripture promises that the Word is a lamp to your feet and a guide for your steps, and that promise does not disappear because the night is long. Start with a small passage, let it sit, let it ask you the hard questions, and watch the cost turn into a deeper peace that steadies the restless parts of your life.
